What to Expect - Maternity Photoshoot with Emma Staples Photography

First of all, congratulations! What an exciting time for you and your family. Thank you for considering me to shoot this amazing moment for you.

I’m very informal and relaxed and this sets the scene of what you can expect from my shoots, whether it’s a maternity shoot or family shoot. I like to do a mixture of lifestyle and candid shots with a few poses. What I want to do is capture your beautiful round belly and the emotions and feelings you have at this special time – in a way that’s best for you.

WHEN

The best time to do your maternity shoot is between 32 and 35 weeks when your bump is beautifully round. Timing is different for everyone and I recommend not leaving it too late as you never know when the baby may come!

If you are doing a location shoot it will need to be early morning or late afternoon to maximise the best light. If you are doing a home session then the time is more flexible.

WHERE

As an on-location photographer I will come to your home, or meet you at your choice of one of the many stunning locations we are spoiled with in the UAE.

The desert makes a great backdrop for a maternity shoot, with the soft, rolling dunes mimicking and complimenting your bump perfectly.

If you are worried about being so far away from a toilet (pregnancy bladder and all that!), the beach is also a popular and beautiful backdrop. With the calming soundtrack of the waves lapping at the shore, the pastel dawn colours or the drama of the sunset are perfect to show off your beautiful bump.

If you prefer grass under your feet rather than sand between your toes there are some beautiful parks to choose from. Surrounded by nature with the dappled light coming through the palm trees, the nurturing atmosphere is a perfect environment for your bump.

Or maybe you would prefer to do more of a lifestyle shoot with an urban backdrop. This is perfect if you have small children with lots of energy to burn off! Please not that if you want to get your bump out this doesn’t have as many privacy options as other locations.

WHO

It is up to you whether you want to do the maternity shoot by yourself, or include your partner and children. Or you can do a mixture with some solo shots with you and your bump and some with your family.

WHAT

Some extra points to consider:

Bump: do you want your bump covered, or exposed – or a mixture of both.

What to wear: the main thing is to be comfortable otherwise you will look awkward in your photos. It also depends on what type of shoot you want to do – more posed or lifestyle, and what location you choose. And whether you will get your bump out or not. Feel free to contact me I’ll be happy to discuss different options with you. (Please note if you are getting your bump out not to wear anything too tight as it can leave a mark or indent on your skin.)

Props: do you want to bring any props for the shoot? Maybe a teddy bear, a cute, tiny pair of baby shoes – or the scan if your new arrival has an older sibling.

Creams: If you are doing a beach or desert shoot and you will be wearing sunscreen please apply a couple of hours before we meet so that it has chance to be absorbed. And please don’t use anything too oily!

Packages: I have different maternity packages: Maternity and Maternity & Newborn. You can find out prices and more information here.

If you have any questions or would like to know more information please don’t hesitate to get in touch. I would love to hear from you.

Love, Emma X
